People always ask us how to clean their singing bowls? Should they clean the bowls? Is the cleaning process going to destroy or interfere with sound quality?
The bowls are made from the precious metal alloys and given time and handling they will tarnish. The patina could be quite charming, if you are into it. Some people buy the bowls as “ancient” and cherish the “sacred patina” believing those bowls come from the spiritual environment and the patina gives additional quality to the sound of those bowls. Others buy the bowls as tools of their trade where the look of the bowls, shiny or not, is not that important. If you are using your bowls in the hospital, or the care centre, you will need to clean and desinfect them frequently.
So, how to clean them.
Firstly, you may use the reputable brass cleaning solution. Something that may be used for cleaning brass instruments, I won’t mention any brands. With product the cleaning is as easy as following the instruction on the bottle or box.
Secondly, you may use following procedure:
Soak the bowl in warm water with detergent.
Wash and wipe dry with paper towel.
Polish with vegateable oil. The mustard oil is used in Nepal, but olive or any other vegetable oil is also useful. We use the paper towels in this last process, most of the dirt comes off the bowl in this process.
Enjoy your bowls..
